What are Brain Boosts and why do them?
Brain Boosts are small doses of movement (2-10 minutes) to wake up students brains and help prepare those brains for learning.
There is a ton of research out there about the effects of exercise and the brain (see the sidebar to to the right - Exercise and the Brain)
John Ratey, an associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and the author of “Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain,” said: “Movement activates all the brain cells kids are using to learn, it wakes up the brain.” Adults don't want to see in a 45 minute meeting, can you imagine a child sitting the majority of day in class.

Resources to keep in classroomThere are a ton of great resources out there to help you implement Brain Boosts in your classroom. For instance, if you click on the the link below and find some researches you would like, let me know. I will use PE funds to purchase and if they items needs to be made or laminated, I will do that too. I only see the students once a week in PE, so I want to do whatever I can to help them get moving!
